2014 - 15: A Report

The year 2014 –15 proved to be yet another year of joyful teaching and learning, complemented with bustling activities; at the Department of Environmental Science. The activities organised, were meant to further strengthen, the realities of the necessity of environmental consciousness, conservation and also of finding new methods to achieve them.

The department organised ‘talks’ on ‘Career Opportunities in Environmental Science’ and ‘Kitchen Management’.

The department also conducted study visits to Soil Survey Department, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Naidu Sewage Treatment Plant, Action For Agricultural Renewal in Maharashtra’s (AFARM) Watershed Management Field at Khed-Shivapur, Katraj Gaothan, Chalkewadi Wind Mill Farm, Koyana Wildlife Sanctuary and Thoseghar Interpretation Centre as part of the undergraduate degree course.  

Study tours to biologically rich and distinct areas of Kaas plateau and Alibaug coastal zones were also made to incite scientific appreciation for the nature.


The students are constantly encouraged, at the department to avail the opportunities which allows them the much needed exposure. It was one such opportunity when our students participated in the ‘Lead-Earthship’, a Tata Energy Research Institute-Tetra pak youth initiative programme.

2013 - 14: A Report

It has been a constant endeavour at the department to promote environmental consciousness. To promote the idea of conservation of our natural heritage and to instigate students towards preparedness for right action, the department organised ‘talks’ and guest lectures on, ‘Snakes- their ecological significances’, ‘Olive Ridley Turtles- Ecology and Conservation’ and ‘Waste Management’. On the same line, visits were also organised to Hand-made Paper Industry and the agro-tourism belt of Palshewadi, Baramati.

Activities were also organised to incite resolving capabilities, amongst the students; for environmental issues. They were in the form of a film screening and discussion session on river water pollution in Pune and a ‘talk’ on natural disaster Tsunami.

The department conducted study visits to Soil Survey Department, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and Katraj Gaothan as part of the undergraduate degree course. 

With the launch of a newly structured F.Y.B.Sc. syllabus this academic year; new approaches of teaching and learning were applied to. One of them was the use of social media for e-networking and dissemination of ideas on environmental issues. To facilitate this, a one day workshop for students, on the operation of social media and e-networking was conducted.       

The department also played a proud host and co-organiser for one day, to the Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival. The programme themed around water issues in India was co-organised with ‘Lokayat’ and Student Welfare Association, AISC.
