Orientation Programme on “Gender Sensitization and
Anti Ragging Regulations”
In accordance with the guidelines
given by the UGC, Abeda Inamdar Senior
College organised an Orientation Programme on “Gender Sensitization and Anti Ragging Regulations” on 25 August 2014 in the Seminar hall, Pavilion
Building.The programme was especially organised for the first year
undergraduate and post graduate students.
Ms. Shaheen Patel, Assistant
Professor, Dept. of English, of our college, made use of a power point presentation
to make students aware of what constitutes ragging and how it is a legal
offence. She elaborated on the rights of victims and how they can get help and
redress their complaints. She also spoke about the punishment given to the
students who were accused of ragging. Students were then asked to fill out and
sign a declaration for themselves and their parents which stated that they were
made aware of their legal rights and duties with reference to the law
prohibiting ragging.
Mr. Neeraj Jain, of the Lokayat Group, organised a short
session and group discussion on Gender Sensitization. The Lokayat Group is an
NGO that works for the cause of awareness about various social problems.
Ms. Alka and Ms. Smita of Lokayat
screened a documentary on“Gender Sensitization”. This was followed by a
question and answer session that dealt with areas such as gender roles,
femininity, and masculinity and so on. It was an interesting and informative
session.
The programme was attended by more
than 150 students. Vice Principal, Dr.
Shaila Bootwala also addressed the students. Members of the teaching staff from all the departments
were also present on the occasion.
